People with curly hair know that weather and climate play a major part into whether their curls are looking stunning, or whether they are lying limp and dead off of their scalp. The reason for this has to do with humidity. If a climate is too humid, then curly hair can go a little crazy, and be hard to tame. However, in a dry climate, that’s when the limp problem starts to happen. Here are some tips to prevent this and maintain curly hair in dry climates…

Get a humidifier

First of all, if you are at your home, then there is no need to have to subject your hair to the harshness of how dry the air is. Get a humidifier in your home to have a controlled climate-environment that you can take advantage of when you aren’t out and about. This gives your hair a break and can let it stay healthy for a duration of the day. This also helps keep your skin, which can also suffer in dry climates, from getting dry and damaged.

Condition your hair religiously

Conditioner is the biggest tool you have to keep your curls feeling fresh and healthy. Try to condition your hair every day, and never, ever skip an opportunity to use conditioner. Also, try to use a deep conditioner every now and then to really make sure your hair is getting the nourishment it needs to keep the curls soft and in good health.

Use oil-based products

The key to keeping damage from your hair in a dry climate is to keep some oils in your hair (we’ll address this in the next point). For this reason, using oil-based hair products keeps the dryness from invading your hair and making your curls limp and dead. Some natural oils help your hair retain some moisture.

Use shampoo less often

While you need to be conditioning your hair pretty regularly, make sure that you aren’t also washing your hair with shampoo every time you use conditioner. Shampooing your curly hair is getting rid of those natural oils that you need in your hair to keep from getting dry. In addition to this, don’t use shampoos with lots of sulfates in drier climates, as they can be very harsh on your hair.
