Platelet-Rich Plasma Hair Restoration

If you’re researching various treatments for hair loss, then it’s worth looking into platelet-rich plasma hair restoration, also known as PRP therapy. You may have heard of PRP therapy as a skin treatment that uses the plasma in your blood to help you maintain more “youthful” facial features. The same principle can be used to help stimulate hair growth in individuals with thinning hair.

At Barr Aesthetics, we use a variety of different hair restoration techniques, including PRP therapy. This therapy is not for everyone. Please ask us for a consultation to check if it can be right for you. And be sure to learn more about PRP therapy by reading below!

Depending on what area you are wanting to be treated with Botox will determine how many units you will need. Botox is priced by units due to the fact that everyone is unique and may need a different amount of Botox administered depending on the area, gender, size, and the strength of your facial muscles. Units vary in cost depending on where you go for your Botox and your units can range anywhere from 2 units in some places on your face to up to 30 in other places.

How PRP Works

Essentially, platelet-rich plasma hair restoration operates by taking the plasma in your blood and injecting it to increase the blood supply in your scalp and around your hair follicles. Typically, this process consists of 3 initial treatment sessions over 3 different months. After that, patients need to come in for maintenance roughly two-to-three times a year.

Each treatment session consists of the following steps:

  • Drawing Blood: First, your blood is drawn from another part of your body. Usually, this is done through the arm, where veins are large and easily accessible.
  • Processing Blood: Once the blood is drawn, it is put into a centrifuge to process the blood into the 3 separate variations that make up your blood: red blood cells, platelet-poor plasma, and platelet-rich plasma.
  • Plasma Injection: Once the platelet-rich plasma has been separated, it is strategically injected into parts of the scalp where hair growth needs to be stimulated.

Is PRP hair restoration right for you?

The only way to know if PRP therapy is right for you is to get a consultation from an applicable licensed professional. In general, it works best for individuals who experience early hair loss. It can also be a good option for patients who have androgenic alopecia. This is a genetic trait where hair thinning happens at the very top of your scalp, causing a widening part in the hair.

We recommend that you should avoid platelet-rich plasma hair therapy if any of the following apply to you:

  • You are a regular smoker.
  • You have a history of substance abuse.
  • You take blood thinning medication.
  • You’ve been diagnosed with a disease or disorder that impacts your blood and plasma levels.
