Dermal fillers are the world’s leading non-invasive answer to the natural process of aging. As we age, the skin around our face begins to lose volume and shape, replacing smooth, youthful skin with wrinkles, bags, and creases. Dermal fillers help to reverse this process by replacing lost volume and restoring a patient’s youthful appearance.

The Different Types of Dermal Filler
As you might imagine, there are numerous variations of dermal filler to accommodate every type of need. Below is a list of the fillers that Dr. Barr administers, as well as their uses. Each filler has unique properties, and some may even be used in other areas of the body besides the face. Feel free to explore the options available, and consult with our physicians with any questions you might have.
Juvéderm®
Juvéderm® XC is one of the gold standard fillers used for lip augmentation and for smoothing facial wrinkles.
Renuva
Renuva is an allograft adipose matrix for the restoration of volume. Applications include cheeks, nasolabial folds, hands and other areas of the body.
Restylane
Restylane® is a hyaluronic acid filler that will help restore your skin’s fullness and elasticity.
Sculptra
Sculptra is used to correct shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds, by treating them with the appropriate injection technique.
How Fillers Are Administered
Fillers are administered through a syringe to areas on the face most in need of attention. One of the biggest advantages of using fillers is that the treatment is simple and can be done during a regular office visit. The majority of patients report feeling little to no discomfort. If necessary, a mild local numbing agent can be used for additional patient comfort. Afterward, temporary slight bruising, tenderness and swelling may occur. These symptoms should resolve within one to two weeks.
Are Results Permanent?
All fillers, regardless of type, are eventually broken down by the body and need to be replaced. The longevity of filler is variable, lasting anywhere from several months to several years, and is dependent upon several factors, including, the type of filler used and area treated. Your provider will discuss with you your aesthetic goals and ensure that you are fully informed and know what to expect.
