Whether you are considering rhinoplasty to change the overall look of your nose or if for medical reasons such as breathing better it’s important you know what to expect going into the procedure. Often times people have certain unattainable expectations when thinking of their rhinoplasty and it is imperative to talk to your surgeon about expectations and plans for what to accomplish.
Pre-Op
Before going under and having your surgeon go for it, there will be a couple of appointments to get a feel of what you are wanting and expecting and potential renditions of what you are wanting. If you are looking for a cosmetic change being able to tell your surgeon what you are looking for and hoping for will be important. If you are going for a medical reason you will want to explain all of the things you are dealing with. One of the most important things to remember is that no nose is perfect. Also if you are looking at other noses for inspiration, you will need to remember that there could be contour that will alter the look of the nose you are seeing and isn’t going to be able to be exactly replicated. Another thing to remember is that one nose may look really good on one face but may not look as good on a different person due to the shape of the faces.
Post-Op
One of the biggest things to know and remember after your surgery is that it can take up to a full year for your nose to be done healing and for you to see final results. Everyone’s noses heal differently and different skin and or cartilage can be thicker which will result in a slower healing period. There will also be a good amount of swelling and bleeding afterward that will probably look worse than it will feel. Just be patient in the healing process due to the fact you won’t see immediate results.
Different types of rhinoplasty options are available for different results. Whether you are looking to breathe better or change the overall shape or look of your nose, there is an option for you. Speak in-depth about what your goals are with the surgery with your doctor to ensure you’re happy with the final results. Remember to follow your surgeon’s recommendations for pre and post-operation to ensure a smooth recovery and your desired results. Also, be wary that final results from a rhinoplasty can take up to a year. Though some results may take place sooner, plan to not see full results immediately.
