Neck, Chin, and Jawline

There are many factors involved in the aging of the neck. Genetics play a large role in intrinsic aging, the natural aging process. Everyone ages differently. Aging of the neck can result in thin, dry, saggy skin, brown spots and redness, platysmal bands and excess fat.

Extrinsic aging is aging that is related to environmental factors including sun exposure, pollutants, smoking, diet, exercise and lack of proper home care.

The neck and decolette are often neglected in your home skin care regimen. The skin of the neck and chest are often exposed to the same elements but not cared for in the same fashion as your face. Some of the best clinically proven topical treatments available for your neck and chest include:

Skin Treatment

We perform a variety of non-invasive procedures that rejuvenate the skin in the neck area.

Venus Legacy

This radiofrequency (RF) device gently heats your tissue and stimulates collagen remodeling, resulting in skin tightening and toning. The treatment is not painful, and there is essentially no downtime. We recommend undergoing approximately 8 to 10 treatment sessions, spread out to once a week, for optimal toning.

Venus Viva

This nanofractional RF device combines RF and microneedling to remodel collagen and tighten skin. The device uses 160 tiny needles, which emit RF energy to penetrate deeper into the skin. It can help correct crepey texture, fine lines, and uneven skin texture. Topical anesthetic is recommended.

Nd:YAG Laser

This treatment creates bulk heat in deep dermal tissue which ultimately cause tightening and smoothing over 6 to 10 treatments.

Pigmentation & Vascularity

The following treatment methods are designed especially for perfecting skin pigmentation and vascularity.

IPL(Intense Pulse Light)

This treatment uses light to target reds and browns on the skin in a process called selective photothermolysis. We recommend undergoing 1 to 6 treatments to lighten brown and red spots and smooth the skin’s texture.

Alexandrite

This laser treatment targets brown spots that are darker and deeper than those treated with the IPL.

Vbeam

This laser treatment specifically targets redness and can be used to treat generalized redness or dilated vessels.

Chemical Peels

Superficial peels gently exfoliate the skin and improve mild discoloration and uneven tone.

Before and after platysmal banding

Platysmal Banding

For platysmal banding, botox is a quick and easy treatment that can reduce the ropy appearance of your neck. Injections into the platysma muscle will relax them into a more recessed state in about 3 to 7 days, thus smoothing the neck contour.

These bands can also be treated surgically, where Dr. Barr sutures the platysma together and divides the muscle in a procedure called platysmaplasty.

Jawline

The contour of the jawline can be smoothed, strengthened, or softened using a variety of procedures..

Injectables

Injectables work to camouflage early jowls and create a more chiseled jawline. They can also be used to soften a square jaw, by injecting Botox/Dysport into the masseter muscle.

Energy Based Treatments

The Venus Legacy heats your tissue, leading to tissue tightening. This is an ideal treatment for those with early tissue sagging and for early treatment and prevention of tissue laxity.

Surgery

Surgical jawline contouring typically involves lifting of sagging tissue by releasing tethering ligaments. Implants can also be used to enhance the jawline

Chin

Chin Dimpling

Dimpling of the chin occurs as a result of chronic contraction of the mentalis muscle. It can be treated using a neuromodulator (Botox/Dysport) to help relax that muscle, providing a smoother chin and even softening deepening of the mental crease.

Chin Contouring

The ideal chin will project to the level of the lower lip or just behind that. Fillers or permanent implants can improve the contour of the chin and balance the profile.

Excess Fat

Dimpling of the chin occurs as a result of chronic contraction of the mentalis muscle. It can be treated using a neuromodulator (Botox/Dysport) to help relax that muscle, providing a smoother chin and even softening deepening of the mental crease.

Before and after

Neck Hair

A hairy neck can be uncomfortable and unattractive. Laser hair removal can clean up neck hair, leaving you with a smoother and cleaner looking neck.

Neck Lift or Neck Contour

Dr. Barr always customizes surgical treatment of the neck depending on your concerns, which may include excess skin, excess fat, and platysmal banding. For a neck lift, an incision will typically be made behind the ear. If you have little excess skin and only wish to eliminate some fat in your neck, neck liposuction may also be an appropriate technique.
