You can moisturize your skin until the cows come home, but if you aren’t using the right products and methods to cleanse your skin on a consistent basis, no amount of serums and facial oils will save your skin. Quick tip: a makeup wipe doesn’t count as washing your face! You definitely need to remove any makeup you put on at the end of the day, but a makeup wipe just wipes away the makeup. It does nothing to cleanse your pores.

Daily cleanser

The best way to cleanse your skin, is to find a daily cleanser that you love and works well with your skin type. For most skin types, you want to stay away from anything that is a foaming cleanser. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t see any sort of lather, though. Directly after cleansing, your skin shouldn’t feel tight, that’s a sign that the cleanser is stripping away too much of your skin’s natural oils.

Micellar water

A lot of people have been starting to use micellar water as part of their cleansing routines! It’s also referred to as cleansing water, but there is a stark difference between a regular cleanser. You don’t have to wash it off! After you cleanse, put some micellar water onto a cotton round and wipe it across your face. This will help pick up anything you missed during your cleanse.

Double cleanse

Most people aren’t able to get all of their makeup off with just one cleanse. Micellar water is great, but for more intense cleaning, you can try a double cleanse. Before using your cleanser, use an oil based cleanser. This first cleanser is meant to loosen all of the dirt and product on your face, and the secondary cleanse is meant to wipe it all away!

Exfoliant

Exfoliating is an important part of your skincare routine. When choosing an exfoliant, you want something gentle. A harsh exfoliant has no place on your skin! Microdermabrasion is a great way to go. However, Retinol and products like Glycolic acid are also exfoliants, and should be incorporated into your routine.

Don’t forget to tone!

Toning should happen after cleansing and before moisturizing. There are so many different types of toners available, from vitamin C, to Glycolic Acid, to Witch Hazel, and even milk based toners. Experiment with a few different kinds until you find the right one for your skin!
