Brow Lift and Eyelid Lift

A Brow Lift is a cosmetic surgery performed to correct or improve sagging foreheads and brows. As we age, the brow and forehead areas show the first signs as they begin to droop. Sun, wind, and the pull of gravity all affect the face. Tissue loses its elasticity resulting in frown lines, wrinkling across the forehead and an increasing heaviness of the eyebrows. The resulting tired, angry, or sad expression may not reflect how you actually feel. As a result, many people have opted for a procedure known as the forehead lift. This procedure is usually performed between the ages of forty and sixty, but may sometimes be necessary at an earlier age. Based on variations in how men and women age and on advances in medical technology, a variety of methods are used to perform this procedure.

During the brow lift surgery consultation, Dr. Barr will examine your facial structure, the condition of your skin, and your hairline in order to decide which specific cosmetic surgery technique to use. The main difference among the various options for forehead lifting consists of the placement of the incision. Typically, Dr. Barr prefers to use an endoscopic technique. With this technique, small incisions are hidden behind the hairline and an endoscope is used to perform the surgery through these small incisions. During the procedure, Dr. Barr operates on the muscles that can cause frown lines, tightens loose skin and lifts and reshapes drooping brows to provide a more youthful appearance.

Not infrequently, a brow lift is combined with Blepharoplasty (an eyelid lift) or facelift surgery to provide a harmonious rejuvenation.

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid lift)

Every year, one hundred thousand men and women undergo cosmetic eye surgery or blepharoplasty to improve the way they look. Droopy eyelids can make you look older and can even impair vision. Eyelids that interfere with vision may be reimbursed by your insurance. The upper eyelid lift removes a precise amount of muscle, fat and upper eyelid skin. Dr. Barr designs the incisions so that they lie imperceptibly in your natural lid fold. The result is a brighter, fresh appearance.

Lower blepharoplasty addresses lower eyelid bags. Dr. Barr hides the incision underneath the eyelid or just beneath the lash line. Fat and or muscle are meticulously removed or resuspended to provide a firmer, more youthful appearing lower lid.

Blepharoplasty does not alter the “crows feet,” or wrinkles on the sides of the eyes. Those are best addressed with  skin resurfacing or botox. Though blepharoplasty is often performed as a single procedure, consultation with Dr. Barr can help you to determine whether complimentary surgery would increase the success of surgery.
