Botox Procedures
The type of “filler” used depends on what area or issue is being addressed. Dr. Barr uses Juvederm® to augment the lips and to address under eye wrinkles. While she prefers Radiesse® to fill the folds around the mouth and sometimes to augment the cheeks or jawline. Restylane® is used to fill very fine lines such as those around the mouth or the frown lines. Sculptra® and fat are used for the purpose of improving overall facial volume.
All of these fillers, with the exception of fat, which is done under anesthesia, can be done in the office and have little down time. As with any procedure, avoiding things that make you bruise more easily such as aspirin and advil will lessen the chance of bruising.
Botox® and Dysport® may be injected into the muscle with a tiny needle and work by preventing the muscle from contracting. Over time, as the movement is softened, the overlying wrinkles fade. The results last approximately 3 months and another injection will be needed at that time to maintain results. Most people describe the discomfort level as similar to plucking a hair. This same substance can be used for hyperhydrosis, or excessive sweating, and even for migraine headaches.
