Bellafill® provides beautiful volume to counter the appearance of deep lines and scars. With its combination of Collagen and PMMA, it gets metabolized into the body, but still promotes the development of natural collagen and continues to look great after time. In fact, it’s the longest-lasting filling on the market, with proven results up to 5 years after treatment.

How is Bellafill different?

Many of the most popular options for fillers last under a year, which can mean costly and inconvenient recare appointments. However, Bellafill has been hailed as a “game changer,” approved to last as long as 5 years; an unheard-of amount of time for fillers! This has been verified by one of the longest-term studies of aesthetic fillers, monitoring over 1000 subjects over 5 years. At the end of this study, researchers found that there was an 87% retention rate. So how does it work?

Bellafill is made of two key ingredients: collagen, and polymethylmethacrylate microspheres (or PMMA). The collagen provides immediate volume to the area and allows for the microspheres to be placed effectively. Over time, the collagen is absorbed into the body, but the PMMA stays in place to provide support to the skin. As the PMMA stays in place, it also encourages the production of your body’s natural collagen by providing a sort of “scaffold” to build on, for healthier-looking skin over time. PMMA has been used for medical purposes for over 50 years, and has been shown to be very safe.

Who’s it good for?

In initial trials and subsequent years of it being widely available, Bellafill has been shown to be effective on both men and women and with a variety of skin types. However, it’s important beforehand to know whether you have any allergies to ingredients, including bovine collagen and lidocaine. In order to be sure, first-time users are required to have a small test injection area for about a month before treatment.

How long until I can go back to work?

You can get back to your normal life right away. However, different patients might experience minor side effects for a few days afterwards, including redness and itching, pain, and even bruising at the injection site.
It’s also important for patients to know that this treatment is long-lasting and irreversible so it’s important to take the long view into consideration. For most patients, this is a major bonus, but if you’re not sure about treatment, we can recommend starter fillers which are a shorter-term commitment.
