So you’re thinking of getting a nose job? Congratulations! A nose job, or rhinoplasty, can be a life-changing procedure.
Nose jobs are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed today—and it’s no wonder why! They can completely transform your appearance, boost your confidence, and help you breathe a whole lot easier.
Before you sign up for the procedure, there are a few things you should know. Here, we’ll cover the basics: what they are, how they’re performed, and what to expect before and after surgery!
What Is a Nose Job?
A nose job, also known as rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure that changes the shape of your nose. It can be used to correct a wide variety of concerns. The most common reasons to perform a rhinoplasty include:
- Improving the appearance of your nose
- Correcting a birth defect or injury
- Helping you breathe better
If your nose seems crooked, bulbous, or a bit too small or too large for your face, a nose job may be the best way to go!
How Is the Procedure Performed?
Rhinoplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia, which means you’ll be asleep during the procedure.
During surgery, your surgeon will make incisions in either the inside of your nose or in the crease between your nose and upper lip. Through these incisions, your surgeon will then reshape the bone and cartilage to achieve the desired results.
What Can I Expect Before & After?
Before a Nose Job
Before surgery, you’ll meet with your surgeon to discuss your goals and concerns. Your surgeon will also perform a physical examination of your nose to determine if you’re a good candidate for surgery.
- Here are some tips to help you prepare!
- Schedule your procedure during a time when you can take at least a week off from work or school.
- Arrange for someone to drive you home afterward and stay with you for the first 24 hours.
- Avoid eating or drinking anything after midnight the night before your nose job will take place.
Your surgeon may have specific advice about what you should and shouldn’t do before surgery. Be sure to follow all of it if you want to minimize scarring and end up with the best possible results!
After a Nose Job
After surgery, you can expect some bruising and swelling around your nose. This is normal and will eventually subside. You may also have some drainage from your nose and some stuffiness. These side effects are usually temporary and will resolve within a few weeks.
- Here are some tips to help you heal faster!
- Take it easy for the first few days after surgery.
- Avoid strenuous activity and nose-blowing.
- Sleep with your head elevated to reduce swelling.
