Reducing Wrinkles With
Botox Procedures

When it comes to common non-surgical cosmetic procedures, Botox injections may be the most well-known in existence. Not only are injections relatively low-cost, but they have a near-immediate effect on the lines and wrinkles that crease the face.

Hair Restoration Without Surgery

While there are effective surgical procedures that can restore hair growth for various types of hair loss, it’s not the only solution, and there may be better choices for some of our patients. That’s why we offer a variety of techniques for hair restoration and treat hair loss with both surgical and non-surgical procedures.

We understand that each patient is different. After a consultation, we tailor our hair loss treatment specifically to your hair, your budget, and your needs. We’ve noticed that the best hair restoration results are achieved with an integrated approach of various techniques.

Should I Pursue Surgical or Non-Surgical Hair Restoration Treatment?

If you’re in Salt Lake City and considering hair restoration procedures, how do you know which is right for you?

A good candidate for surgical hair restoration is someone with hair available to act as donors for the transplant. If you don’t have a large area of scalp to cover, or have limited follicles available for transplant, non-surgical remedies might be best for you. Let’s discuss it at your consultation.

Signs You Can Benefit from Hair Restoration

Whichever method you choose, what are the signs that you need hair restoration? We see patients as young as their 20s experience some or all of the following signs of hair loss:

  • Thinning hair at the temples
  • Changes to the width of the part
  • Hair loss (when washing or combing)
  • Changes in hair color
  • Changes in hair texture
  • Changes in hair volume

What is Causing My Hair Loss?

You could be experiencing hair loss due to your genetics, including your age or an illness. Other factors that can contribute to hair loss include:

  • Hormonal Changes or Imbalance
  • Injury to Follicles
  • Nutritional Deficiency
  • Thyroid Imbalance
  • Tinea Capitis – Fungal Infection
  • Telogen Effluvium – Emotional stress of stress brought on by medication

If changes in lifestyle, such as diet, sleep, and physical activity levels, don’t improve hair growth, it may be time to consider medication or treatments from Barr Aesthetics for hair restoration.

Medication for Hair Restoration Treatment

There are currently two medications approved by the FDA for hair restoration treatment:

Propecia (Finasteride)

This is an oral prescription that blocks the conversion of testosterone to DHT stabilizing and re-growing the hair follicles that are susceptible to DHT.

Rogaine (Minoxidil)

This is a topical application that stabilizes hair follicles and prolongs their growth.

While not FDA-approved specifically for treating hair loss, other medications such as spironolactone and ketoconazole may also be effective. Dr. Barr will recommend their use if she feels they are appropriate based on a consultation with you about your hair loss, and your restoration goals.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) represents a complex mixture of growth factors and cytokines that are separated from your own blood. Injected into the scalp, the supra-physiologic concentration of these biologically active substances can improve the quality and density of the hair. Three sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart are recommended. Most patients require maintenance treatments every 6 months.

Hair thinning at the front

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is sometimes referred to as a “hair tattoo,” although the process is slightly different from a traditional tattoo. SMP creates the illusion of naturally appearing hair stubble on the scalp, thus improving the appearance of hair density. The SMP serves as camouflage for the scalp, giving hair a thicker appearance.

Scalp micropigmentation is also frequently used to hide the appearance of scarring on the scalp. Here at Barr Aesthetics, we use a highly refined method of cosmetic pigmentation assisted by an intelligent computer-controlled device to carefully place custom-made natural pigments. These pigments are placed into the top layers of the skin and, after a series of approximately 3 sessions (spaced 10-20 days apart), results will last about 3 years. Additional sessions can then be used to maintain results as desired.

Low-level Laser Therapy (LLLT)

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) devices have been marketed for hair growth treatment. The IGrow Hair Growth System has FDA approval, and the therapy is designed to energize hair growth cells on the scalp. It creates healthier blood vessels, more active sebaceous glands, and an increase in melanin (color) in the hair. More studies are necessary to support the role LLLT should play in treating hair loss, but it is known to improve hair quality, slow hair loss, and stimulate new growth.
