Hair Restoration – Scalp Micropigmentation from Barr Aesthetics

Did you know that hair restoration therapy is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed in the United States? At Barr Aesthetics, one of the remedies we offer for hair loss includes scalp micropigmentation.

Signs You Might Need Hair Restoration

Regardless of age, you might start noticing your hair is changing in volume, texture, and color. Early signs of balding may vary from person to person, but typically they are:

  • Thinning hair at the temples
  • Changes to the width of the part
  • Hair loss (when washing or combing)
  • Changes in hair color
  • Changes in hair texture
  • Changes in hair volume

If hair loss isn’t remedied with a change in lifestyle, such as diet or medications, you are invited to meet with the experts at Barr Aesthetics. We are more than happy to discuss hair restoration and hair restoration and replacement options with you.

What Could Be Causing Hair Loss

Hair loss for men and women could also be brought on by age, or any number of additional factors, such as:

  • Alopecia – various forms
  • Hormonal Changes
  • Injury to Follicles
  • Nutritional Deficiency
  • Thyroid Imbalance
  • Tinea Capitis – Fungal infection
  • Telogen Effluvium – Emotional stress or stress on the body due to medication

Whatever the cause, there are myriad treatments to be explored. Consult with your doctor to see what is causing your hair loss to move forward with the right hair loss treatment option.

Why Scalp Micropigmentation?

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure for those who want to regain confidence in their appearance. By choosing SMP, you’re transforming bald spots or thinning hair with a procedure similar to microblading or tattooing for eyebrows.

Also referred to as “a hair tattoo,” scalp micropigmentation cloaks the appearance of thinning hair by mimicking the appearance of regrowth. This is done with specialized micro-needles which deposit natural, hypoallergenic ink into the top layers of the scalp’s skin. Here at Barr Aesthetics, we utilize only metal-free, non-permanent ink. We avoid inks that contain metal because they can adopt hues of blue or green over time. After about 3 years, many patients need reapplication and touch-ups in order to maintain the effects of scalp micropigmentation.

We use a highly refined method of cosmetic pigmentation assisted by an intelligent computer-controlled device to carefully place custom-made, natural pigments imitating the color, placement, and density of your naturally-occurring hair to grant the appearance of a thicker, more luscious head of hair.

Who is a Good Candidate for Scalp Micropigmentation?

Designed for both men and women, scalp micropigmentation caters to anyone facing the challenge of hair loss. SMP offers a versatile and lasting solution, but may not be for patients with psoriasis or acne-prone skin. Let’s discuss your health history and your expectations at a consultation to determine if scalp micropigmentation is right for you.

What’s a Scalp Micropigmentation Procedure Like?

Here at Barr Aesthetics, your SMP procedure is carefully planned from beginning to end to give you optimal results. Expect to spend a couple of hours at each of your three sessions to achieve the pigmentation desired. These sessions should be spaced 10-20 days apart. Once all three sessions are completed, results last about 3 years. Touch-up appointments can help you to modify and maintain your SMP results into the future.

Preparing for SMP

Before the procedure, we recommend patients cut or shave hair to their desired length. This allows us to give you the results you want with a hairstyle you plan to maintain for the next couple of years. During your first session, we’ll spend some time outlining our plan–marking the hairline, and matching the pigmentation coloring to give you a natural appearance.

Discomfort during the procedure is minimal. We do offer local anesthetics and mild relaxants to make the session go more smoothly.

Scalp Micropigmentation FAQs

No, scalp micropigmentation is comparable to getting color deposited on your skin like a tattoo or microblading procedure. It gives the appearance of thicker hair without actual regrowth in thinning areas or implantation of a hair follicle.

Avoid getting your scalp wet when showering, bathing, or swimming for about 10 days. We also recommend you avoid saunas/steam rooms. We’ll let you know specific post-treatment recommendations before you leave your appointment with us.

It is best to avoid exposing your SMP to excessive sun, especially in the week following the procedure. We always recommend sunscreen to protect any exposed skin whether it’s been cosmetically treated or not.

It’s always possible to have an allergic reaction to a topical procedure. Let’s discuss any concerns you have about the products we use at your consultation.

SMP can actually help cover scars on your scalp thanks to the pigment applied. The procedure itself is non-invasive, so it shouldn’t leave any scars.

We do use a topical numbing cream to prep your scalp for SMP to reduce sensation. Discomfort levels vary based on each patient’s pain tolerance.
