Hair Restoration – Scalp Micropigmentation from Barr Aesthetics
Did you know that hair restoration therapy is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed in the United States? At Barr Aesthetics, one of the remedies we offer for hair loss includes scalp micropigmentation.
Signs You Might Need Hair Restoration
Regardless of age, you might start noticing your hair is changing in volume, texture, and color. Early signs of balding may vary from person to person, but typically they are:
- Thinning hair at the temples
- Changes to the width of the part
- Hair loss (when washing or combing)
- Changes in hair color
- Changes in hair texture
- Changes in hair volume
If hair loss isn’t remedied with a change in lifestyle, such as diet or medications, you are invited to meet with the experts at Barr Aesthetics. We are more than happy to discuss hair restoration and hair restoration and replacement options with you.
What Could Be Causing Hair Loss
Hair loss for men and women could also be brought on by age, or any number of additional factors, such as:
- Alopecia – various forms
- Hormonal Changes
- Injury to Follicles
- Nutritional Deficiency
- Thyroid Imbalance
- Tinea Capitis – Fungal infection
- Telogen Effluvium – Emotional stress or stress on the body due to medication
Whatever the cause, there are myriad treatments to be explored. Consult with your doctor to see what is causing your hair loss to move forward with the right hair loss treatment option.
Why Scalp Micropigmentation?
Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure for those who want to regain confidence in their appearance. By choosing SMP, you’re transforming bald spots or thinning hair with a procedure similar to microblading or tattooing for eyebrows.
Also referred to as “a hair tattoo,” scalp micropigmentation cloaks the appearance of thinning hair by mimicking the appearance of regrowth. This is done with specialized micro-needles which deposit natural, hypoallergenic ink into the top layers of the scalp’s skin. Here at Barr Aesthetics, we utilize only metal-free, non-permanent ink. We avoid inks that contain metal because they can adopt hues of blue or green over time. After about 3 years, many patients need reapplication and touch-ups in order to maintain the effects of scalp micropigmentation.
We use a highly refined method of cosmetic pigmentation assisted by an intelligent computer-controlled device to carefully place custom-made, natural pigments imitating the color, placement, and density of your naturally-occurring hair to grant the appearance of a thicker, more luscious head of hair.
Why Choose Scalp Micropigmentation from Barr Aesthetics
- Cloak Thinning Hair: Transform your appearance and conceal thinning areas without anyone knowing. Our technique is designed to give you the look of natural hair follicles.
- Safe and Non-Permanent: Enjoy the benefits of a metal-free, non-permanent inking procedure. You don’t need anesthesia, and touch-ups are recommended only every three years.
- Swift and Stunning Results: See the difference in just three sessions. Our highly refined method is quick and effective.
- Minimal Downtime: Get back to your life almost immediately. Our procedure requires almost no recovery time, letting you continue with your day-to-day activities without interruption.
Who is a Good Candidate for Scalp Micropigmentation?
Designed for both men and women, scalp micropigmentation caters to anyone facing the challenge of hair loss. SMP offers a versatile and lasting solution, but may not be for patients with psoriasis or acne-prone skin. Let’s discuss your health history and your expectations at a consultation to determine if scalp micropigmentation is right for you.
What’s a Scalp Micropigmentation Procedure Like?
Here at Barr Aesthetics, your SMP procedure is carefully planned from beginning to end to give you optimal results. Expect to spend a couple of hours at each of your three sessions to achieve the pigmentation desired. These sessions should be spaced 10-20 days apart. Once all three sessions are completed, results last about 3 years. Touch-up appointments can help you to modify and maintain your SMP results into the future.
Preparing for SMP
Before the procedure, we recommend patients cut or shave hair to their desired length. This allows us to give you the results you want with a hairstyle you plan to maintain for the next couple of years. During your first session, we’ll spend some time outlining our plan–marking the hairline, and matching the pigmentation coloring to give you a natural appearance.
Discomfort during the procedure is minimal. We do offer local anesthetics and mild relaxants to make the session go more smoothly.
Scalp Micropigmentation FAQs
Does Scalp Micropigmentation regrow hair?
No, scalp micropigmentation is comparable to getting color deposited on your skin like a tattoo or microblading procedure. It gives the appearance of thicker hair without actual regrowth in thinning areas or implantation of a hair follicle.
Can I get my scalp wet after scalp micropigmentation?
Avoid getting your scalp wet when showering, bathing, or swimming for about 10 days. We also recommend you avoid saunas/steam rooms. We’ll let you know specific post-treatment recommendations before you leave your appointment with us.
Should I cover my scalp to avoid the sun?
It is best to avoid exposing your SMP to excessive sun, especially in the week following the procedure. We always recommend sunscreen to protect any exposed skin whether it’s been cosmetically treated or not.
Are there side effects with scalp micropigmentation?
It’s always possible to have an allergic reaction to a topical procedure. Let’s discuss any concerns you have about the products we use at your consultation.
Will there be scarring?
SMP can actually help cover scars on your scalp thanks to the pigment applied. The procedure itself is non-invasive, so it shouldn’t leave any scars.
Does scalp micropigmentation hurt?
We do use a topical numbing cream to prep your scalp for SMP to reduce sensation. Discomfort levels vary based on each patient’s pain tolerance.

She approaches any concerns I have with my skin as if they were her own and spends time and attention on making me , and my skin! feel and look the best it ever has. Can’t recommend her more! hayley andrews2023-03-24 I had the pleasure of working with Dr Barr for my recent rhinoplasty, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From our initial consultation, Dr Barr listened carefully to my concerns and worked with me to develop a plan that would achieve the look I wanted. She used photos to help me visualize the final outcome and ensure we were on the same page. The actual procedure itself was a breeze, thanks to Dr Barr's expertise and attention to detail. I was amazed at the transformation when I saw my nose for the first time at my first post-op appointment. Dr Barr did an outstanding job and exceeded my expectations. Overall, I highly recommend Dr Barr to anyone considering a rhinoplasty or other cosmetic procedure. Her talent, dedication, and compassion make her stand out among her peers, and I am grateful for her exceptional work K. C.2023-03-14 I traveled from Los Angeles to Salt Lake to have my blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) performed by Dr. Barr because I knew she was exceptionally qualified as an ENT facial plastic surgeon. I had a wonderful experience. Dr. Barr understood (better than I did) my desired outcomes and provided excellent alternatives to a mini-facelift (which I thought I needed). The blepharoplasty was amazingly pain-free with a local anesthetic, and I had minimal swelling and bruising. Because I work remotely, the only downtime I experienced was the afternoon of the procedure. A week after the operation, it was hard to tell that I had had any work done! Besides the blepharoplasty, my treatment included strategic filler, lightened melasma, and Kybella to shrink jowls. In addition, I started a round of EMface sessions (which I finished in LA) to lift and tone my facial muscles and skin. It's been a month, and the results are stunning. Because it takes the results of Kybella and EMface longer to fully appear, I feel like I am getting younger every day. All of the clinic staff I met were lovely. Elle guided me through the process and ensured that I always had the information and products I needed in her kind and timely manner. She deftly and efficiently provided laser treatment to help minimize bruising. Whitney conducted my EMface therapy, and her calm, confident approach created a relaxed environment during the sometimes bizarre sensations of the procedure. Dr. Barr had my best interest at heart when deciding which and how much of each product to use, and I would encourage anyone considering these types of treatments to get her opinion before having any work done. If I had known I was only a few weeks away from feeling this refreshed, I would have done it long ago! Jeff Motta2023-02-28 Very professional business and Rey was able to put me at rest and was very clear about what to expect and explained what I would experience with my procedure. I would recommend Rey Ilada to everyone. Thank you! V Vineela Maddukuri2023-02-28 Absolutely love it. Susan explains everything so diligently and recommends really good products. She never pushes me to buy them. She is very thorough in all the procedures. Kozy2022-10-04 Dr Lucy Barr did my rhinoplasty in April of this year and I’m over the moon with how amazing it is. Every step of the process was painless and I was given excellent care by her, her husband (Dr Sharma did my functionality surgery at the same time) and her staff. My results exceed my expectations. I’m so pleased! Dr Barr has also reconstructed my earlobes (I used to have them stretched big in the early 2000s) and I’ve also had laser work done on my pigmentation on my face. I see Susan for laser work, Chase for injections and Elle for facials. Every single member of this team is a gem. The office is clean and beautiful and every one is kind and the best in their field. Thank you for helping me to look my best, I genuinely love all of you. Diane Guido2022-09-21 I rarely make online comments/reviews, but I felt this was important. The experience I have had at Barr Aesthetics has been fabulous! Colle has been doing a Med-lite treatment with me, and it has truly made a difference in the overall texture and tone of my skin. Of course, everyone is different, but this has certainly done wonders for me. And, Colle has been such fun to meet with over the past couple of months (and so caring) that I just want to post something. Oh, also, they have a cute little sign in the front office that asks you not bring young kids with you to the waiting room....I so appreciate that! Thank you Dr. Barr, Colle, and the whole office staff for everything that you do! Diane
