Wrinkles are a frustrating part of aging that most people would prefer to avoid, if possible. Many wrinkles are actually preventable and those men and women who take pains to prevent them will be paid in dividends over time as their skin remains young-looking and healthy longer.

The number one cause of wrinkles and other skin damage is sun exposur. individuals who work or play outside without protection from the sun tend to show more wrinkles and skin damage as they age. UV rays damage skin cells well beneath the surface layers of the dermis. This damage accumulates year after year, eventually leading to fine lines, age spots, and deep wrinkles on the face, neck, hands, forearme, and anywhere else that is regularly exposed to the sun. Exposure to these UV rays also increases the risk of cancer.

Preventing sun exposure now can mean defying your real age later on. Sunscreen is a must for the face, neck, and any exposed areas of the skin, including the backs of the hands and forearms. Use a strongSPF  of 30 or higher. And remember that wearing long sleevs, hats, and long pants is a simple way to protect the skin from the rays of the sun.

Of corse, we need some exposure to the sun to absorb vitamin D. But most people need only about 15 or 20 minutes per day of direct exposure to absorb the vitamin D their bodies need. For any exposure longer than this, protectionshould be used to minimize potential damage and later wrinkles.

Smoking, lack of sleep, poor diet, and a stressful lifestyle have also been cited as reasons for the development of wrinkles. Recommendations for preventing wrinkles include not smoking, not tanning, sleeping 7 to 8 hours each night, drinking plenty of water, and eating a healthy and well-balanced diet. Berries, colorful vegetables, and dark leafy greens all contain antioxidants that help combat the free radicals that damage the skin cells.

Taking these precautions are an easy way to protect the skin and lengthen the time an individual can enjoy a younger looking face and body.
