What does Microdermabrasion Treat?

The purpose of microdermabrasion is to create a a controlled injury so that the body is prompted to replace the damaged cells with fresh, healthy ones. The new skin that grows in its place is softer, smoother, and healthier.  Microdermabrasion is often used to:

  • Repair skin damaged from the sun.
  • Minimize hyperpigmentation and other discoloration.
  • Decrease the amount of blackheads in the skin.
  • Exfoliate the skin.
  • Reduce acne and acne scars.
  • Minimize light scars.
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Treat enlarged pores.

Who is a good candidate for Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is an excellent way to treat many skin conditions in a gentle, but effective way.  Patients with deep scarring, oral herpes (cold sores), active rosacea, warts, eczema or extremely sensitive skin are not good candidates for microdermabrasion.

What is the Microdermabrasion Tool Do?

The microdermabrasion tool is made up of a stream of crystals and a vacuum. The tool uses aluminum oxide, sodium chloride, or sodium bicarbonate crystals to exfoliate the skin and simultaneously uses gentle suction to collect the dead skin and crystals. The procedure is not painful, and only removes the outer layer of skin without damaging the lower ones.
