Wrinkles are lines, folds, or ridges in the skin that develop over time as we age. In many cultures, wrinkles are a sign of wisdom, but in the United States and many other developed nations, wrinkles are seen as a negative aspect of aging. Women and men in today’s contemporary society want to feel and look young as long as possible.
Wrinkles are caused by a variety of factors. Most wrinkles develop on the face, forearms, backs of hands, and the neck. For most individuals, however, the wrinkles that cause them the greatest embarrassment are found on the face.
Wrinkles do not develop solely due to ageing; some of the most common causes for facial wrinkles are facial expressions. Smiling, frowning, furrowing the brow, etc. are all expressions that lead to wrinkles over time. Smiling even contrubutes to crow’s feet, the crinkling around the eyes that people get as they age. But who would want to be caught without a smile?
Some wrinkles are preventable or can at least be avoided for a long time. One of the mail causes of wrinkles is sun exposure, particularly for wrinkles on the backs of hands and the forearms, as well as the face and neck. the sun emits Uv rays that send free radicals in to the skin cells, damaging the cells. Though this damage rarely show when we are young, underneath the surface some damage accumulates in the form of excessive melanin production (freckles, age spots, moles) and in cell that are losing their elasticity. As we age, this damage forms wrinkles in the skin. People with light skin experience damage due to sun exposure more readily than those with darker tones.
Smoking is another major contributing factor in the development of wrinkles. In fact, long-time smokers often appear much older that they actually are because smoking reduces blood supply to the skin which results in reduced oxygenation and wrinkles.
Genetic factors can also contrubute to deceloping wrinkles. But as with cancer and diabetes in the family lines, those with a higher chance of developing premature wrinkles can still do things to prevent or delay the decelopment of those wrinkles, like wearing a harstile and clothing that provide more shade from the sun and applying sun screen. of corse, once wrinkles have developed, the choice is between buying expensive creams that may or may not help temporarily, or looking up a Utah plastic surgeon to review more lasting options.
