When Should You Worry About Aging Skin?
The first signs of aging become visible on the skin’s surface around the age of 25. And while with age comes wisdom, sometimes age comes with other side effects we don’t cherish as much.
In our practice, we most often see the signs of aging on the delicate skin of our clients’ necks and faces. Another natural result of aging is a loss of skin elasticity, also called elastosis, which can contribute to the formation of wrinkles and sagging skin. At Barr Aesthetics we offer rejuvenation services to remedy client concerns regarding these types of changes to their appearance.
In addition to the top layer of skin showing signs of aging, the connective tissue in our faces does as well. We see the effects of this in the ear lobes, and even the tip of the nose. Some clients come into Barr because of drooping skin, and together we develop a remedy to improve elasticity and connective tissue integrity.
Other Natural Signs of Aging Skin
Elastosis isn’t the only sign that we’re aging; other common tells include:
- Skin thins, making veins more visible
- Loss of pigment cells (melanocytes) causing the skin to pale
- Existing melanocytes increase in size (resulting in “liver spots”)
- Skin bruises more easily
- Chronic dryness and/or itchiness
- Less active sweat glands
- New growths such as skin tags or warts
While some of these signs of age are simply cosmetic, others can affect the quality of life. It’s only natural to want to address these concerns, whether with plastic surgery or other means. Doing so not only gives back a feeling of youth but feelings of comfort in one’s skin again.
Good Candidates for Facial Plastic Surgery
If you’re interested in pursuing facial plastic surgery to bring a more youthful look to your appearance, Barr Aesthetics can help you determine if you’re a good candidate. The recommendations from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons are as follows:
- Non-smoker
- Free from existing medical conditions that could hinder the body’s ability to recover from surgery
Ideally, those who undergo plastic surgery also have realistic expectations regarding what a skilled surgeon can perform. At Barr, we’ll discuss your goals and how we can achieve them together.
